Today is International Tea Day! Here's How to Celebrate

Happy International Tea Day!

Tea is one of the world’s most popular beverages (second only to water!) and is a huge part of numerous cultures around the world. Tea growing and production is the main source of livelihood for millions of families worldwide, especially in developing countries where a huge majority of tea comes from today.

Although International Tea Day has been around since 2005, it wasn’t until 2019 that the United Nations designated May 21 as International Tea Day, leading to the first official UN-sanctioned celebration in May 2020.

While on the surface it may seem that this holiday came about in celebration of your favorite beverage, in truth, it is centered around tea workers and the need to improve their working conditions. It is also focused on promoting ethical and sustainable tea production and consumption practices.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate, we encourage you to support tea brands that are responsible, sustainable, and working directly with farmers and growers around the world as we do at Art of Tea. Did you know that all of the pearls in our Jasmine Pearls Tea are rolled by hand at origin? Or that each bulb in our Halo Blooming Tea is hand tied, one by one? We truly value the relationships and partnerships we have with small farms to help make your favorite cup of tea a reality; we couldn’t do it without them, and for that, we are truly grateful!

We hope that this inspires you to always do your research before buying tea and to help spread awareness about these issues to bring about positive change. And the next time you take a sip of your favorite tea, take a moment to appreciate all of the hard work that went on behind the scenes.

Cheers!
