Earl Grey Creme Scones Recipe from Art of Tea
Ingredients
- 2 heaping tablespoons Earl Grey Creme Tea
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- (Makes 12 scones)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper
- Grind your Earl Grey Creme Tea into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or food processor
- Combine dry ingredients (flour, sugar, tea, baking powder, baking soda, and salt) in a mixing bowl until there are no clumps
- Mix your butter into the dry mixture with your fingers until a coarse dough is formed
- In a separate bowl, whisk together your egg and buttermilk
- Add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients bowl and mix gently until it comes together as a soft dough
- Roll out dough to a 1-inch thick sheet and cut it into 2-inch circles or squares
- Place them onto your prepped baking sheet and sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking for 15-18 minutes in preheated oven
