Earl Grey Creme Scones Recipe from Art of Tea


  • 2 heaping tablespoons Earl Grey Creme Tea
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • (Makes 12 scones)


  1. Preheat your oven to 400 F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Grind your Earl Grey Creme Tea into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or food processor
  3. Combine dry ingredients (flour, sugar, tea, baking powder, baking soda, and salt) in a mixing bowl until there are no clumps
  4. Mix your butter into the dry mixture with your fingers until a coarse dough is formed
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together your egg and buttermilk
  6. Add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients bowl and mix gently until it comes together as a soft dough
  7. Roll out dough to a 1-inch thick sheet and cut it into 2-inch circles or squares
  8. Place them onto your prepped baking sheet and sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking for 15-18 minutes in preheated oven
