How to prepare matcha

Sift 1–2g of powder into a bowl. Add about 2oz of hot water, around 175°F for ceremonial grade or 180–185°F for Grade A, and whisk briskly in a W motion until a fine foam forms. Add more water or milk to taste. Keep the opened container tightly sealed, cool and away from light.

Prefer a steeped tea? Matcha+ combines organic sencha with a dusting of ceremonial matcha. Explore what ceremonial grade matcha is and which matcha to choose for your cup.

Matcha is green tea stone ground into a fine powder and whisked into water, so you drink the whole leaf rather than steeping and discarding it. Traditionally it comes from shade grown Japanese leaves, as our Ceremonial Grade Matcha does; our Grade A matcha comes from China.
